Arrivederci – Mom’s off to Europe!

My mom left this week for the trip of a lifetime – 10 days in the Czech Republic! Her side of the family is from there and it’s always been a dream of hers to go over and explore, meet her extended family, see the castles and lifestyle, and collect some souvenirs. When my aunt mentioned taking her daughter there for a graduation gift, my mom was right on board!

Now my mom is a huge part of our lives and we spend A LOT of time together, so her being gone for 10 days is a loooong time for us and not something to take lightly. Before we let her embark on her adventure, we made sure to spoil her enough that she’d surely want to come back to us soon! So, Friday night, we took her to dinner on the beach for a farewell dinner. It was a great, laid-back evening and the kids absolutely loved playing in the sand during dinner!

Friday… Favorites!

I saw this survey going around on a few blogs that I follow, so I figured why not join the fun? I used to love the email surveys that used to circulate in high school. My favorite part is actually reading them, not filling them out, because I love to learn a little more about people that you typically wouldn’t know unless you actually asked. For this one, you’re only supposed to pick one answer. That’s going to be tough, but let’s give it a go!

 

Name Your Favorite…

Person: Hands down, it’s this guy right here. Followed closely by my kiddos and my momma.

Color: green and pink

Food: Probably pizza… I really don’t have a clear-cut favorite.

Smell: Cookies while they’re baking. 

Book: I lovelovelove Richard Paul Evans’ books. Especially The Walk series

Movie: The Notebook – as cheesy as that sounds, it’s really romantic and sweet.

Time of day: I feel crazy typing this, but usually between 6:30 and 7am. That comes really early on the weekends, but seeing Kailey come out of her room with her hair all a mess in her jammies with sleep eyes makes my morning! Or hearing Cameron yelling “Mommmmma!” over and over again until I get him from his crib. Those two melt my heart!

Day of the week: Saturday, for sure. Even if all we’re doing is laundry and housework, we’re together.

Things to do when bored: Facebook or Instagram. What did we do before smartphones??

Celebrity: Candace Cameron Bure

Drink: Alcoholic – Wine Slushies from the Flagler Beachfront Winery. Non-alcoholic – coffee!

TV show: Grey’s Anatomy and Parks & Recreation are my top picks

Fruit: Any kind of berry or fresh cherries!

Vegetables: name one?! Broccoli or fresh baby spinach

Store/shop: Kohls and Publix. Do you really need any other store?!

Workout: I really want the answer to be running, but I’m not there yet. Circuit Training is where it’s at for me! Fast, sweaty, and effective.

Potato chip flavor: really not a potato chip fan, so how about Pita chips? Stacy’s Cinnamon & Sugar!

Meal of the day: Dinner! The most variety and usually happens at home with the fam.

Ice cream flavor: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Or Cookies & Cream. Or Mouse Tracks…

Season: Winter. Christmastime is always my favorite time of year.

Lifehack: Toasting two pieces of bread in one toaster slot. Perfectly toasted on the outside, nice and soft bread on the inside.

 

As I suspected, it’s impossible to choose just one favorite! But it was fun trying to narrow some of these down. So tell me, what are some of your favorite things???

Why don’t I look like Jillian?

Well, 30 days are over and I did it! I completely Jillian Michael’s 30-day SHRED! My first thought upon completing the challenge…. “So… why don’t I look like Jillian?!”

I never expected 30 days to transform my body, drop dozens of pounds or turn me into a superior athlete. I think it did exactly what I expected… gave me a good butt kicking every day, removed some unwanted inches, and helped give me a boost of energy each day. It did all of those things. I only lost a measly two pounds according to the scale, but my clothes that were snug now fit just right. I’ve discovered that these circuit/interval training workouts are a great fit for me. They are fast and sweaty, which is important for someone with little free time! I even picked up a Nikki’s Fitness Travel DVD that has interval circuits for 30 minutes. I love Jillian, but it’s nice to be able to switch it up a little.

I’ve also started tracking my food & exercise using an iPhone app – Lose it! I HATE counting calories, but this app makes it super easy. You can scan barcodes on any food product and magically all of the nutritional info pops up on the screen. You can store your previous meals/snacks to pull up on different days which is a big time saver. Plus, it has tons of workouts to choose from which makes it easy to track about how many calories were burned during your workout.

When I first signed up, I had to enter height, weight, age, etc, and it decided that to lose one pound per week I should be eating about 1325 calories per day. This number terrified me and I thought “great, I’ll be starving!” but surprisingly, I am UNDER budget nearly every day! Weekends I find the hardest because my dear, loving husband LOVES food… bad-for-you food. And I love it, too. It easier for me to ignore it when I’m at work and it’s not staring me in the face. We are working on making healthier weekend choices.
